Unfortunately, cockroaches are one of the things that you might have to deal with in Dallas. Don’t blame yourself if you have cockroaches. Sometimes there’s nothing you could have done to keep them out of your home. We’ve definitely noticed a spike in the number of people having cockroaches who keep their homes clean. This often happens if you live in an apartment or close quarters and someone next door, who has cockroaches, moves out. It seems that the instances of cockroaches are on the rise in-step with the increase in foreclosed homes. Once the cockroaches eat the food in a foreclosed home they’ll come looking for food in your house next. Luckily, cockroaches are only a temporary problem. If they’re attacked aggressively you can soon be cockroach-free.

Dallas Cockroaches

Cockroaches can survive in conditions that other pests cannot because they’re extremely adaptable. This can sometimes make cockroaches difficult to detect and get rid of. Dallas cockroaches are not only disgusting, but they’re also dangerous to have in your home. Cockroaches carry bacteria, which is easily transferred to humans. Roaches commonly cause diarrhea and food poisoning in humans by contaminating food and dishes.

Preventing Dallas Roaches

Roaches are able to enter your home through just about any crack they can find. In order to keep the roaches out of your home you should plug up any holes around baseboards, pipes, and windows. You should also remove any excess scrap paper or cardboard around your home, including your garage, attic or basement. Another key to protect against cockroaches is to make sure that food is stored in sealed containers.

Dallas Honey Bee Removal

Honey bees generally do not infest homes as much as other flying pests. However, when they do, they can do quite a bit of damage. Honey bees can chew through walls to get inside where they then begin storing large amounts of honey, which invites other bees and wasps. Their waste will also attract moths and beetles.

If a bee colony is found within a building wall, it should be removed immediately. Call Dallas Pest Control for your honey bee removal.

Dallas Africanized Honey Bee Extermination

Because Africanized Honey Bees are more aggressive than standard bees, they are often feared more. When a bee stings it will release an alarm pheromone that signals for others to come attack. With Africanized Honey Bees you are sometimes talking about the entire hive. This can be dangerous for anyone, not just those with bee allergies.

Africanized Honey Bees will often find their way into a home through small holes in the exterior walls of the home. Once they are inside, like the standard honey bee they will create a nest. You may also find their nests hanging in various places on your property. Be sure to call our Dallas Africanized Honey Bee specialists if you think you’re being invaded.

Ground Nesting Bee, Wasp, and Hornet and Removal

Generally people only think to look up when looking out for stinging insects. Unfortunately, that will not protect them from those insects that have ground nests such as wasps, hornets or yellow jackets. These insects will burrow into the ground with multiple openings or entry points. These burrows are often found along the edge of a bank or along a line of trees. Some types of ground bees, wasps, and yellow jackets are very dangerous to treat. Because of this it is very important that you keep all children and pets away and do not try to remove them yourself. Protect your family by having our Dallas bee and hornet experts come out to exterminate any ground nesting bees, wasps, hornets or yellow jackets.

Dallas Carpenter Bee Extermination

Carpenter Bees can cause quite of damage due to their burrowing into the exposed dry wood of building decks, fascia and soffits, windowsills, railings, and wooden siding. They bore holes that are about 3/8″ in diameter then build their nests inside the hollowed out space. You should suspect a carpenter bee infestation if you find large amounts of sawdust and pollen below the hole which is being chewed and excavated. Dallas Pest Control will get rid of carpenter bees for you and seal up any areas where they have bored holes.

For more information on stinging insects download this fact sheet from the CDC on protecting yourself from stinging insects. If you are having problems with Dallas bees, hornets, wasps, or any other stinging insects then give us a call at Best Dallas Pest Control today!

As the saying goes, where there is smoke there is fire. The same goes for mice and rats as generally when you see their droppings you are sure to have a furry critter not far away. As social creatures, both rats and mice tend to get lonely without companions, which is why generally when you are not dealing with one little mouse, but rather his whole extended family. Just as you would tell your friends and family about the great restaurant you have found to eat, a mouse or rat will bring along companions to share in the food, warmth, and hospitality your home has to offer, whether you like it or not. This is where our Dallas rodent control experts come in.

So what is the big deal about a little mouse here and there? They are harmless, right? No, not really. According to the CDC, rodents can directly transmit a variety of diseases including the following:

Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome

Hemorrhagic Fever with Renal Syndrome

Lassa Fever

Leptospirosis

Lymphocytic Chorio-meningitis (LCM)

Omsk Hemorrhagic Fever

Plague

Rat-Bite Fever

Salmonellosis

South American Arenaviruses

Tularemia

While not all Dallas rodents will be carriers of the above diseases, they can still be a nuisance around the house as they chew everything in sight. It is not uncommon to find chewed electrical cords and food supplies when mice or rats are involved. They will chew through practically anything when trying to get to food. However, they don’t have to chew a very large hole as mice can squeeze through a hole the size of a nickel while rats can squeeze through a hole the size of a half dollar.

This is often times how mice and rats originally come to be in a home or business. They have squeezed through some tiny hole that no one noticed. For this reason it is important that any rodent control measures include finding the gaps and holes that allowed entry in the first place. This is a service that our Dallas rodent control experts provide. Common areas to find these holes and gaps inside your home include:

Inside, under, and behind kitchen cabinets, refrigerators and stoves.

Inside closets near the floor corners.

Around doors.

Around the fireplace.

Around the pipes under sinks and washing machines.

Around the pipes going to hot water heaters and furnaces.

In the basement or crawl space.

In the basement and laundry room floor drains.

Between the floor and wall juncture.

Around floor vents and dryer vents.

Inside the attic.

Now, when looking for these areas don’t forget that mice can and do climb quite well and will often follow plumbing up to the second floor. Also, don’t forget to look on the outside of your home as well. The last thing you want is a rodent trapped in your walls and scratching away night and day. Some good places to look for holes and gaps on the outside of your home include:

In the roof among the rafters, gables, and eaves.

Around holes for electrical, plumbing, cable, and gas lines.

Around windows.

Around the foundation

Around doors.

Attic vents and crawl space vents.

Under doors.

Fill any small holes and gaps you find with steel wool kept in place with caulking around the edges. Larger holes can be fixed with cement, metal sheeting, lath metal, lath screen, or hardware cloth. Flashing can also be used around the base of the home to prevent entry. If this all sounds like too much work for you, that is okay as well. Our Dallas rodent control experts would be happy to not only rid your home of rodents, but to secure it from future invasions as well. Just give us a call to schedule your consultation.
